8 out of 11 major sectors added jobs in April. The two largest nonfarm sectors, trade, transportation and utilities and education and health services, each grew by over 1,000 jobs.
Oregon gained 1,400 jobs in March, of which just 400 were in the private sector. Over the last year, the state has lost 1,900 jobs and the private sector has lost 11,500.
Oregon ranks 27th among all states in CSI’s inaugural Economic Competitiveness Index. Since 2011, Oregon’s rank fell one spot as declines in net migration and business creation outweighed slight improvements in poverty rates, median household income and GDP per capita.
